Beautifully Kept A summer of reading · 2026

Read it, mark it,
fill the shelf.

Sixty hand-picked books across three ages — 5–7, 8–10, and 11–13 — the timeless beside the brand-new. Your reader keeps their own shelf; you get a kid who loves to read, and a wall that proves it.

Three ages, one wall

A shelf that grows with your reader.

The love of reading isn't installed — it's grown, and it looks different at five than it does at twelve. So there are twenty books per age, on the same five shelves, each list built for exactly where your reader is right now.

5–7
Learning to love it

Ages 5–7

First chapter books: short chapters, big wins, and read-alouds count toward the shelf. Series starters on purpose — a finished book one sends them to the library hunting for book two.

Reading to devour

Ages 8–10

The golden age of reading. Survival stories, secret worlds, puzzle mysteries — the books that turn “has to read” into “can’t stop,” and the summers kids remember at forty.

Hatchet · Percy Jackson · The Westing Game

Reading to become

Ages 11–13

Substance without the content worries — anchors like The Hobbit and Wonder beside this decade’s hits. Big questions on safe pages, for the reader deciding who they’re going to be.

Why we made it

This could have been another app — we build apps for a living. We built the opposite. Because a love of reading isn't installed; it's grown — one finished chapter at a time, at five, at nine, at twelve. So Chapter Crew is real books a kid holds in their hands, twenty of them matched to their age, and a screen whose only job is the reward: sign off a chapter, take a quick quiz, unlock one small game when the last page turns — then straight back to the book. A kid who reads widely — survival and wonder, mysteries and belly-laughs, and the quiet ones — is quietly learning how to be a person. That's worth hanging on the wall.

What we believe

Real books first.

Paper is the point

The reading happens in a real book — library copy, hand-me-down, or new from the Bookshop. Screens never touch the story.

The screen is the dessert

Two-minute rewards: chapter sign-offs, quick quizzes, one mini-game per finished book. Never the meal.

Books build kids

Every title earned its place for what it teaches — grit, empathy, close reading, laughter. Read why, book by book →

Five shelves · every age

The shelves

The same five worlds at every age — the books just grow with the reader. Adventure at six is a magic tree house; at nine it's a hatchet in the wilderness; at twelve it's the road to the Lonely Mountain. Order any of them from the Bookshop →

The big seller

The shelf that hangs in the kitchen.

The Chapter Crew poster hanging in a family kitchen

Warm paper, hand-drawn shelf illustrations, and oak rails top and bottom. Twenty slots wait for their sticker — the day a book is finished, its cover goes up. One poster per age, same design, its own books; by August, the wall tells the whole story.

  • All five shelves, every book named — one slot per finished read.
  • Oak hanging rails and cord — made to be seen, not taped to a fridge.
  • Pairs with the sticker sheet; each finish becomes a small ceremony.

Where it gets fun

What the kids see

Every slot on the poster carries a small code. A finished chapter earns a scan: the reader drops into that book's own world, signs it off, maybe takes a quick quiz — and finishing the whole book unlocks a mini-game. Small and fast, on purpose. Here's Charlotte's Web, themed to the Heart & Home shelf.

  • Rewards are two minutes, not two hours — a sign-off, a quiz, one quick game per finished book.
  • Tap a chapter to sign it off — finishing feels official, and the screen celebrates briefly.
  • A live crew strip shows who else is on the book — the reason Charlie wants his cousin reading too.
